Dr Bijan Shahrad

About
Dr Bijan Shahrad

I am the clinical lead for gastroenterology at North Middlesex Hospital and hold an honorary consultant post at Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH). Over the years, I’ve built a close working relationship with the GOSH team as well as many specialists at tertiary hospitals, should further investigations need to be arranged.

As one of the respiratory leads, I help children struggling with asthma, chronic coughs and recurrent chest infections, among other issues.

My approach is holistic, focusing not only on medical treatment but also on the emotional well-being of each child and the unique concerns of their families. I pride myself on creating an environment where children feel safe to voice their problems, helping me understand and address their health needs thoroughly.

My love for paediatrics grew during my elective work in respiratory illness in the Solomon Islands as a medical student. I spent a year of my junior paediatric training in Sydney working at the renowned Westmead Children’s Hospital. Obtaining my Royal College of Paediatrics membership in 2014, I trained at respected centres including the Royal Brompton, The Royal London Hospital, University College London, and Chelsea and Westminster.

I am a father to two young children and understand the all-consuming stress child illness can bring to parents. I am a keen gardener and love watching birds feeding in my garden.

I currently offer private clinics which I run alongside my much-loved NHS work.

Working at one of the busiest paediatric departments in the country, I’ve gained extensive experience across general and emergency paediatrics, equipping me to handle a broad range of paediatric health concerns.
